В поисковом скрипте у вас есть ошибка:

mysql_real_escape_string вернет false (эквивалент пустой строки), если еще нет соединения с базой данных, поэтому вы эффективно очищаете строку поиска.

Вы должны изменить это:

include ("connect.php");
$my_data=mysql_real_escape_string($q);

Вы также должны добавить обработку ошибок в вызовы вашей базы данных и перейти на PDO или mysqli, если это возможно, как mysql_* функции устарели.
