Решение

Это немного сбивает с толку смесь PHP и «потоков» и «сокетов», но между ними есть разница.

Потоковая оболочка / протокол — это то, с чем вы можете работать как будто это файл. Вы можете использовать потоковые обертки с file_get_contents() или любую из функций, связанных с файловой системой.

Транспортировка сокетов — это другое дело, и они работают на более низком уровне. Кроме возможности закрытия соединения, они не имеют границ размера и могут быть бесконечными. Вы не можете читать бесконечность с file_get_contents(),

‘udp: //’ является транспортным сокетом, и вы не можете прочитать его с file_get_contents(),
