Бьюсь об заклад, это segfaulting с поверхностями RGB, но не RGBA.
Пытаться glPixelStorei(GL_UNPACK_ALIGNMENT, 1)
до вашего glTexImage2D()
вызов.
GL_UNPACK_ALIGNMENT
по умолчанию 4, что хорошо работает для данных RGBA, но заставит OpenGL прочитать конец surf->pixels
для поверхности RGB.
Вам придется использовать GL_UNPACK_ROW_LENGTH
если surf->pitch
ненулевой
